As a carer you may be worried about getting the flu because it would affect your ability to care for the person you are looking after. This in turn will have an impact on the health and wellbeing of the person you are looking after. That is why, amongst other at risk groups, the NHS offers flu vaccinations for carers.
Tell your GP you are the main carer for the person you are looking after. If you receive Carers Allowance, let them know too. Explain your concerns for the welfare of the person you are looking after if you should fall ill, e.g. if there is no one else who would be able to step in.
Ask your GP to add you to the Practice Carers Register. Your GP practice will use their Carers Register to invite you for flu vaccination.
