If you are aged 18 or under and help to look after a family member who is ill or has a disability, then it is very likely that you are a young carer.

Brent Council has a duty to make sure young carers are offered the help they might need when looking after someone in the family.  Brent Young Carers Service works with Brent council to provide a range of support services that we know are helpful to young carers.  We want to ensure that Young Carers have the right support is in place for them.Brent Young Carer Service offers useful information about your rights, details of some of the common challenges you may face as a young carer, and how we can support you.  This includes the following:

  • Support you and the person that you care for;
  • Listen to you;
  • Provide information and advice about the specific illness and/or disability the person you are looking after is living with;
  • Enable you to meet with other young people in similar situations to you, who understand how you feel;
  • Early Health Assessments;
  • Advocacy & Representation;
  • Young Carers Support Groups and a quarterly Forum; and
  • A programme of social and recreational activities.

All young carers who register with us receive a free copy of our Young Carers Information Guide explaining more about what we do.

For some young carers, getting out and about with friends isn’t always an option due to other priorities.  Our job is to make sure that they do.  Our Young Carers team hosts a range of activities that you will enjoy, and you get the chance to meet up and have fun with hundreds of other young carers you my have not been aware of before.
